Reclaiming the Darkness

Greg Manning in conversation with Kelly Shivani Rose

KellyI can go first. So I do 1 to 1 sessions with people, and I also do today immersions. And the whole process that I do, the whole journey that I take people on. It's around, pausing and coming into stillness and coming, closing our eyes and going into ourselves and deep into ourselves. And you could say that that is our darkness, that our inner world is our darkness, perhaps.
KellyBut it's, the process is about going into something that has been, pushed into the darkness and suppressed and kind of rejected in ourselves. And going into that with bravery being held by me and feeling that facing it, processing it, releasing it, and then coming back up and out. So it's this descent and this rise and it's something that is that can be challenging.
KellyIt can feel scary to do, but I feel like there's such magic in going into the darkness and going into our darkness and embracing that part of ourselves, and we maybe reframing what darkness even is so that we feel like this is okay. I can go into this because I feel like there is so much gold in the darkness for us to reclaim.
KellySo I do that as 1 to 1 session. So I do that over two day immersions in nature and, yeah, reclaiming something of ourselves that's been that's been pushed away. So that's what I feel really passionate about.
GregAmazing. I want to ask you all about this. So many interesting bits about it. Maybe we'll we'll, flow into it after this. I can I can dive into this creation of yours. So amazing. Yeah. So I the first time I heard of darkness, I was like, I wanted to do that immediately. It was just like. Yes.
GregAnd I think the darkness has always been, I think without wanting to make it about women or females, it feels like the feminine to me. The dark internal states and all of everything that I do is around the feminine, you know, and I think that goes back right into my past of this separation from my mum, aged three months old and this intrigue.
GregBut, you know, the shadow work, which is kind of that whole everything that's in the shadows and hidden. Yeah. And the darkness and all of the work with Mother Earth and this earth work and the plants and her creations in this way. Yeah. So for me, I went in, I first did it with mangled Barry, who was a Daoist master, classic Daoist master named Barry, and who lived in North Wales.
GregAnd it was I just felt like I was going home in the darkness. It felt like.
GregHartley just went a little, just like like climbing back into the womb or something. And it all just went away and. Yeah. And, that was really amazing. There were some, some bits that I didn't quite gel with, and so I tried other things. I tried with the masks as well with the Sacred Trust, and I tried with some lucid dreaming work, and I tried solo work like this.
GregAnd it was the closest, actually. And then I decided that nothing was quite what I wanted, so I started creating it for other people.
KellyYeah.
GregAnd as with any creation, that it's a co-creation. The people who come tell feedback and. Yeah. And it becomes really? Yeah, it becomes a co-creation all of this way. And, and eventually it became breath rebirthing, which is another one of my passion quest work. And the idea for the rebirthing is to try and rebreather the first breath. So time and time.
GregSo taking people back into the womb and into the water and, but the back of my mind always is. I would love to be able to create the simplify it completely instead of filling the space with activity to. Yeah, just allow the medicine of darkness to show people the mirror of themselves. And that principle of self-healing that happens when you create the right safe space.
KellyYes, exactly. Yeah. And it's that it's that, I came to this, this really deep understanding that, you know, we we all have it within us to our bodies have this body intelligence, and we all have it within us to self Hill and it's and really it's about the creating the space and the environment and the container for people to feel safe enough to go into themselves and to trust themselves.
KellyAnd it's about trusting themselves within this darkness rather than fearing it. Yeah. And so much of our conditioning is around fearing the darkness. And that's where we've come into this association between darkness and evil or darkness and bad things. And I think it's that association that I feel quite passionate about undoing and and separating that because, actually going into our darkness and going and settling down into ourselves and coming to that place of self-healing and rest and rejuvenation and all the things that the darkness really is, which is yin inside of the yin yang and the feminine.
KellyI really resonate with that as well. And it's rather than it being this thing that we fear, it's actually this thing that is there for us to to nourish us and to rejuvenate and to and to allow some things to die, because that is that side of it. And it's not death as in something that's horrible and painful and, and to be and to be feared.
KellyIt's death, as in letting go of something that isn't serving you anymore. So when I do this work with people, it's we're looking at pain and we're looking at belief systems and defense mechanisms that have been built up because of their traumas. And actually, 20 years later, in their adult life, those belief systems and those traumas aren't actually serving them anymore.
KellySo going into the darkness and allowing those things to die away actually is, that's where you can really reclaim the thing that has been rejected from that trauma. So we experienced the trauma, and then I see it as a part of our soul is kind of splits off and goes out into the darkness, and then it goes there to rest and rejuvenate and to if the mother was allowed to do her work, she would bring, she would nurture and she would bring in to bring it back in.
KellyBut because we keep it rejected, it stays there. And then it becomes shadow, it becomes more distorted and and then it comes out, leaks out in unconscious ways. And but yeah, if we can really let ourselves go in, we end up being able to reclaim something that was always ours. Yeah.
GregOnly, only, relate to that. All of the energy that we put into keeping the darkness out and that there's a literal version of that in the electricity for the lights that we create to keep out the darkness, but also in ourselves. You know, this needing to be in the light, the safe space of the light where we can see and we can keep ourselves safe because we can predict any danger that's coming.
GregThat's suddenly when we drop into and I love this in In the darkness visible books that some cultures around the world see it as sacrilegious to light up the darkness, to keep it, you know. And we have it is it's a sacred thing. And and in this world it's getting worse and worse with all the blue light and the, you know, the full solar lights on the phones and everything.
GregYeah. Messing with it and just this, this thing that's been taken from us, which is this dream space, you know, even daydreaming and the ability to just allow this space. And I think that's one of the fun, the limited people I've had, I don't know, 25 people through so far. And it's a common theme. It's just like this desire to get away from the continuous bombardment of marketing companies who studied the human mind and distraction and attention.
GregYeah. And and it's we're bombarded, you know, all the time and even even by a light bulbs and the electricity and, and it's, it's another form of the repression of the feminine in some ways.
KellyAbsolutely.
GregAnd it's too much light, you know, it's got to be in balance. And we need both.
KellySo. Exactly. It's, it's so young, isn't it. And actually what happens, what I see happening, what I've seen happening in myself, is that when there is that much young, we end up in burnout and then we end up plunging into the darkness. But because we're not, because we don't have that, trusting, healthy relationship with the darkness, it feels terrifying and scary.
KellyAnd then it can become depression, almost because people are so burnt out and exhausted that they go into the darkness, but they don't feel they don't understand it, they don't feel safe in it. And so my what my desire to reclaim the darkness is kind of like a, almost like a preventative thing so that we don't go into burnout so that we don't plunge into the darkness unexpectedly.
KellyAnd for it to feel like this scary space, it's more of a, oh, I'm going to step in because I can feel that I'm becoming overstimulated. I can feel that I've been in the light for so long. Actually, I'm going to step in because I know that that's a safe space for me. And then go into that rest and then having that balance between the yin and the yang, the light in the dark, which I think is where are, is where we feel most nourished.
KellyWe have this combination of nourishment and, achievement. I suppose. You know, we're kind of balancing the tune, and that's a big part of it. And I really like what you just said then about it's another rejection of the feminine. And this is what this is where the kind of the passion comes from me. So, so this me dropping into myself, into my own darkness, which I've got to say, actually was a lot of that was an initiated when I started doing Kundalini yoga.
KellyI don't know if you know much about.
GregA little bit.
KellyBasically, one of the main things is that you keep your eyes closed so you know how you go to other yoga classes and you're doing the poses and you're checking around to make sure that you're doing it right. And, you know, taking your body to make sure that everything is just as it's meant to be. But in Queensland yoga, you keep your eyes closed and they keep on saying, close your eyes, close your eyes.
KellyBecause it's not about the external experience, it's about the internal experience. So it's about going into yourself and feeling yourself and feeling the energy. And it is going into that that even though congenita is quite young in the movement, it's yin in the way that you're going into deep into yourself and into the darkness and into the energy and into intuition, into feeling.
KellySo it's a really nice balance. And it was doing that work and it was doing a conscious dance and closing my eyes when I was doing conscious dance, and I really started to feel the power of the mother, the power of the feminine. And I was doing a lot of meditation with trees and going deep down into the in my vision, going deep down into the earth, my vision and my energy and just really feeling this like, oh, there's so much power there, there's so much healing, there's so much nourishment, there's so much wisdom.
KellyAnd actually, when I look at the the way that we live, there's so much rejection of that. So I have this really deep passion to reconnect with mother, with the feminine, with dark, with darkness.
KellyBecause I feel like it's our it's a place of power for us as humans.
GregAgreed. Yeah. And so I think one of in this slow acceptance of spiritual practices amongst the scientific community that has a strong influence in the West, the, the research that done on meditation which is faced similar, it's close your eyes and go inside. Yeah. This it's it's like almost a very beginner's form of darkness. Right. And and just stop.
GregYeah. Close your eyes, let it settle. And, what do you find? And the darkness clings to people that you work with.
KellyOh, that's a good question. I'm going to let that one just settle in.
KellyI think what it brings is they start to trust their intuition, and they start to realize that their thoughts and their logic are not the only way. You know, our logical side and the light side, it's, it's it's and everything that we can see with our eyes, all of that is completely valid. But I think going deep into ourselves and going into the darkness and starting to find trust there and safety there, I think it's I think people start to move through life in a different way.
KellyActually, it's much more of a flow and it's much more intuitive. They start to trust their gut more. They start to. And what I feel is actually they start to listen to their soul more and be led by that rather than or not, rather than the mind and rather than the logic. But there's more of a balance between the logic and the intuition.
KellyAnd it brings a great sense of relief, actually, and interest in me. One when when people go on this descent and rise, they leave feeling lighter. So yeah, even though I'm saying to them we're going to go into the darkness and we're going to go into this thing that feels painful and hard to face and to feel and it's going to feel, it's going to be raw and it's going to be challenging at times.
KellyActually, when we come out the other side, they come out feeling lighter and I mean like as in lighter as in the opposite to heavy but also lighter as in more expansive. So actually on the other side of the darkness, there is just more lights, you know? So once we can really embrace the darkness, we find more of ourselves.
KellyYeah. And how about you? Have you had a similar similarly?
GregYes. I thought of when people leave them selves with their burden, of course they're going to be lighter. And I think this is another balance between the yin and the yang, which is the logic and the intuition. And I think that we've become this is part of the scientific revolution, which has brought a lot to us. Yeah. But the the other side of that is that in the process, it's tried to cut out all of something that might have been problematic.
GregAnd I see this in shamanic work that the imagination gets involved. All the shadow projections get involved in shamanic work. Yeah. And so actually, when we meet ourselves properly, this balance between the all of the hyacinths perceptions that science just says slap as your imagination. Don't be silly. And we learn a very early age just to put it in spam folder.
GregIt doesn't even come to the inbox. And there's something in going into the darkness is like, you've got nothing to. You've got nothing to blame. No. And you've got nothing but yourself there. So you start to understand, what is this? Is this old stuff coming up? Is it my body speaking to me, or is it potentially something a dormant sense?
GregAnd I'm not really been aware of this kind of stream of information. And we start it's almost like it's been atrophied for so long. Do we? We're starting from scratch. It's like being a toddler, trying to learn to use these tools and understand them. And yeah, I see this really opening up in people and and yeah, it's not a incredible thing.
KellyIt really is.
GregAnd when they're connected to what is coming out of them in the darkness, because that's the other thing about the darkness, it relaxes the nervous system, it slows down the brain. And it's like there's a natural self-healing mechanism that's triggered that when we relax, we release, and when we really allow ourselves to let go, then naturally, the body starts to self heal and shake and breathe and bubbles come out.
GregAnd yeah, I see this, I see this, and little by little people become clearer. Actually,
KellyYes.
GregAll of that energy keeping it in the shadows. And then you let it in and suddenly you've got all of this energy back to, to be present. Yeah. With life and all that it's bringing.
KellyYes. Yeah. You're so you're so right about that. Because the way that I see it is when we have these traumas and these stresses and we and a part of us is pushed out, then it's kept out by our defense mechanisms, by our belief systems and the amount of energy that goes into into keeping that all at bay.
KellyOnce you really step into it and really go into it and really release, and it really is about surrender, it really is about letting go of that grass because we're grasping, because we're scared, and because we are wanting to maintain some level of control. So going into the darkness, it is about surrendering. It is about letting go of the control, which can feel terrifying.
KellyBut what happens? This magic that happens when we do release and those things do fall away, that part of us comes back in and it's like that energy of keeping it away. It doesn't need to be there anymore. So then we're fueled up and I have felt more life in me and life force in me since dropping into the darkness, releasing, connecting with the earth, the mud and and the earth life force as well, and bringing that up into my into my body.
KellyAnd there's this. It feels like there's this, like plugging into the earth is like plugging in. It's like. It's like charging ourselves up as batteries, you know, but it means that we need to kind of soften and let go of the control and not be so focused on understanding everything or making everything makes sense. And the science world, it's so valuable in lots of ways, but it is trying to make sense of things all of the time, which I love.
KellyI mean, I love a bit of science, but at the same time, there's so much that we if we really cling to that, if we really grasp hold of that, then we can become a bit too stuck and a bit too rigid. And it's yeah, it's having that balance and softening into the darkness is, I just think it's so magical.
KellyIt's so rejuvenating. And, and, and you get more clarity. People think of clarity as being the light. And actually, I've had more clarity when I've closed my eyes and gone down and like you say, sifting like that shadow that I need to work with that. That's unfair pain. So I'm going to feel that and I'm going to release that.
KellyOkay. That's the belief system that doesn't serve me anymore. And once you sift through and you clear all of that, your sense of clarity, a sense of self, I think, and who you are underneath all of the layers, I think that's the magic of.
GregIt, the truth of it. I think there's an irony there, isn't there? Because the people who have made the greatest scientific advancements are the ones who've actually embraced the mystery and the wonder of not knowing. They're the ones that have gone into the darkness. They they. And that's how the light is brought out. They're the ones that have gone in.
GregAnd that's where the clarity comes. Yeah. All of these people who you look at some of the greatest scientists and some they have some wacky ideas all over the place. We hear about the ones that make sense. But if if you entertain all of the others, it's because there's something in the mystery. And I, I sometimes think, you know, in my greatest spiritual, like playing around with ideas, I don't know anything, but I quite like this.
GregI asked the question, why do we if we are just in amnesia, we come in and we forget the previous lives and we forget what happens before. Why do we choose amnesia? And I think one of the things that you can't do if you are part of the one and all, when we come back to the one, is that you can't taste this most precious thing, which is all, and wonder, you know.
GregAnd that's what's in the darkness. This whole world opens up. And I think that, you know, in this swing from the masculine and the feminine, we've gone into this kind of and it was needed. I mean, look around this. We have so much comfort and safety and the moves and the clothes and the and the microphone and the cameras, and we can share this over.
KellyThe, over.
GregThe, over the whole of the world. And it's been so great. And yet many people who get caught up in that scientific mindset forget to embrace the fact that we don't. We know so little. And, you know, they're just it's just models. It's just all of science is just ideas. Yeah, yeah. And that have come out of that and yeah.
KellyYeah. And that's it. And like you said earlier on about the imagination, oh, we'll push that aside because that's the imagination. But my understanding of science is that that has come from somebody imagination. And then they've decided to test it and then they've then they've kind of proved it or proved it by probability. I don't know how to articulate that, but, they it has come from somewhere.
KellyIt has come. It hasn't just. Yeah, it's come from somewhere. It's probably come from their imagination. You know.
GregThe darkness, the mystery, the who knows where.
KellyThat's the part, who knows where exactly. So. And that just what you're saying then that made me. That made me think about the time where I went into the darkness. So not just the internal darkness, but I did a ceremony for myself because I realized that I actually feared darkness, as in, I always had to have my door open a little bit.
KellyAnd I always, you know, was scared about, there being like, energies or monsters or whatever. When I was a child, I was very scared of monsters under the bed and all this kind of stuff, and I realized that I still had as an adult. I still had this fear of of the darkness of night time. And so one of the things that I do is that when I have a fear, I really face it, and I really kind of go into it.
KellySo I built myself up to going into a long barrow by myself at night and really embracing the darkness, which, you know, it's I think if you're going to do that, it's good to do it with a couple of people. But I was really pushing myself to the edge, and I went there twice during the day to kind of familiarize myself with the with the layout and to get a sense of the energies that are there, because in the long barriers there can be different energies, and making peace with those energies and asking permission to come in, actually.
KellyAnd then the last time, the third time that I went was about 5:00 in the morning in January, and it was my birthday. And so I was doing a rebirthing for myself. And so because the cave for me is, is like a physical representation of the womb, of the mother's womb. And so I was wanting to go in to speak out and release things that I was holding on to.
KellyAnd so I went into the cave in the darkness, and I felt my way through, and I felt the walls, the walls of the womb. And I was like, it's okay, I'm safe here. I sat down and I meditated just for a little while, and then I did light it up. So I did this whole light in the cave ceremony.
KellyAnd then I was speaking to the mother and handing things over to her. And then I did a ritual where I was circling around and I was taking the light back out. And then as I went out, it was the sunrise. So I did all of this as ceremony, speaking the Aramaic Lord's Prayer the whole time as well.
KellyAnd then from that, when I was going, when I was doing the integration from that, I just kept closing my eyes and I kept on seeing the source of all. And I don't know how else to describe it, other than I just kept closing my eyes, and I kept seeing the beginning of this of the universe. So seeing these little sparks of gold that were kind of lighting up in the darkness, and then they were starting to, like, meet each other and then forming these pathways.
KellyAnd I was like, am I seeing space or am I seeing the formation of the brain? And then I realized that there's this connection between the formation of space and the formation of the brain of consciousness. And so what I kept on seeing them was like the brain forming these neural pathways. And then I was doing out of myself, this is all in my visualization.
KellyThen I was out of myself in seeing my body, and then I was going further out than I was seeing the earth, and then further out. And I was seeing space, the cosmos. And then once I got to that bit where it was the whole of the cosmos, I was coming back into my brain and it was this, this.
KellyOh, okay. It's this loop of of consciousness. And we're all part of that, this web, this divine web. So and that's what came from going into the darkness, as in, you know, the actual darkness, you know, not just inner darkness, outer darkness. Sorry. And and that's one of the things that I've done that has come out of that.
KellyAnd it gave me a more of an understanding of us and what we're doing here.
KellyAnd I think you can't see that with your eyes. You need to close your eyes, and you need to go into darkness to go into this inner space, actually, and into this source of all. And I think in the source of all, we have all of our potential there as humans. So when so when you say the scientists went into them, into their darkness, they will have tapped into something that is in source, that is our potential.
KellyAnd then they've brought it forward into.
GregThe light.
KellyDoes that does all of that make sense.
GregAnd it really was I had I had a very similar vision in some deep shamanic work. Yeah. That if you go out far enough you end up.
KellyIn back in.
GregAnd also with time, if you go forwards phone off you end up back. Yeah. And this cyclicals and there's something very empowering in that because it's like it's almost like with the whole opponent which is also this way of that Doctor Lane was able to heal other people without meeting them by doing the work inside on himself. And that's a great empowerment that by doing inner work, we help everybody and everything all the time.
GregAnd that's the place which is like when we look out at the world and we feel disempowered, which is an amazing thing. And so I really relate to that. That sense of expanded ness that happens in this, in going within. Another real beautiful distinction in the yin and yang as well. There's something in the yang being this seeing and understanding and the and there's something around beliefs that are in there.
GregBut in the feminine, it's much more about experiencing and knowing. And there's something the alternative to a belief is in faith and is one thing reading in a book that if you go far enough out, you end up in, and if you go far enough forward, you end up back. Yeah, but if you read it in a book, then it doesn't.
GregYou know, your beliefs are the internal beliefs held in the subconscious are actually more important when you meet that moment of death, you know that what you actually believe or fear underneath is there. But when you have an experience of it, then it's this face which is not something that is, is, negotiable, you know? And nobody else's belief can really knock your face.
GregAnd it doesn't matter what you believe, because that faith inside is what you carry and what affects your actions and how you do what you do, and the ability to ultimately drop into peace and be able to witness the dark and the light of all of creation and these swings. And there's something in that experiencing it which is so deep, just dropped somewhere else.
GregYeah.
KellyYeah, absolutely. And I think, I think what you've touched on there is this because I think both of us really value the somatic therapy side of what we do. So and for me that is the the going into the body and, and embodying. And in a way, you could say that that is going into the darkness because you're going into the felt sense and the sensation.
KellySo you so we could talk about our pain and we can talk about our belief systems, and we can have that from our minds, and we can try and understand what happened to us as children with our minds. But unless we really drop into the sensation of what it was to experience that trauma and to allow ourselves to process it, and it comes back to what we're talking about earlier on about the body's way of healing.
KellyAnd it already knows what to do. Our bodies already know how to recover from a trauma, but because our in our conditioning, our minds say, no, you can't do it. You mustn't cry, you mustn't scream, you mustn't rage, you mustn't shake. If you, you know all of these names that we've been called when we were children, and we fell over and we were shaking and we were like in distress, all of that just took it all back up to our minds and it separated it back out.
KellySo one of the things that I do is I, I help people to return to that moment or that time where really they deserve to be looked after and held and loved through that trauma, to allow their bodies to do this natural recovery. So we can talk about our traumas and we can talk about our beliefs, which we do a bit of.
KellyWhen I do the two day immersions, we do a bit of talking because I like to work on a mental level emotional, emotional, physical and spiritual. I think that's a good holistic way. And so we do talk about that. But then it's combined with dropping into the sensations in the body. And I do part of what I do is a breath work, body work journey over almost an hour with music, and we titrate between going into the pain and resting, going into the pain and resting, speeding up the breathing, bringing it back down.
KellyAnd it really helps people with no words. And it really helps people to really. And it's blindfold dropping into the pain and really feeling and connecting with that part that just needs to rage and just needs to cry and grieve and release what is being held in the body. And that is darkness. And that is the feeling in the senses and the sensations.
KellyBut coming back out of that is what brings us the relief, so we can talk about it in our minds. But dropping into the body. And I feel like that's when the soul can really drop in, because it feels like this body is a safe place to reside. Because we've gone into that and cleared and released, made space for our soul.
KellyOur spirit depends on what wording you use for and and. Yeah.
GregAnd I recognize oh, I think I recognize in you because I recognize it in me. There's a, there's lots of really intuitive and incredible practices that work really well together. And as we work with them ourselves, then we learn to lead, to combine. There's an intuitive healing sense in this. Obviously, it's more difficult when it's not 1 to 1 with a group.
GregBut there is this because we've walked the path, we can nurture people along that path themselves. I'm wondering what your journey was and how you found these things and created the journeys that you have done.
KellyWell, that's going to be summing up the last seven years of my life. And so my, my journey to that was seven years ago. I had a little bit of a mini breakdown and it and it again, it I resonate with what you're saying about keeping everything at bay, because for years I didn't realize I was doing it, but I was I had kept everything at bay, and it meant that I would swing from being quite depressed to being quite like, short tempered and reactive.
KellyAnd I got to a point seven years ago where I just was like, I just can't do this anymore. I just can't carry on like this. And then without going into too much detail, I when I was in this kind of despair, I was just like, what am I supposed to do? And I felt this and heard this voice, this calling to go to the White Spring Temple in Glastonbury in particular.
KellyAnd I didn't know why. And I'd always gone to Glastonbury as, like a go to the Crystal shop and buy, buy something or, you know, walk up to the tour. I felt like in something intriguing about Glastonbury, but I didn't really know what. But it was really about doing that, and it was doing that at my moon time, that particular time.
KellyAnd I would go every month and do a solo pilgrimage because I had I have a family, so I was I needed to go and do that by myself, do a solo pilgrimage to the White Spring Temple. And I went in and I didn't know what I was doing there. But just being there, being in that energy and being in the darkness and softening slightly, I just started crying and I just cried and cried and cried.
KellyI didn't realize how much grief I was holding onto. And then I just decided I, I just had this realization that that, you know, there's so many things about me that aren't actually me. And I need to start going through these layers. So I started doing yoga and conscious dance and grief tending ceremonies. So there's a grief tending ceremony.
KellyI don't know if you've heard of Frances Weller.
GregSure. Of course. Of course. She had a wild edge of sorrow.
KellyYes, exactly, exactly. So I've done a lot of that. And, I just started to realize that once I really go into it in that way, that actually when I come back out, I'm relieved more and more. And I combined that with a training in Mystery school. Path to the One Heart mystery school training. And I've also done Reiki training years ago.
KellyAnd then a couple of years ago, I did hollow somatic bodywork training. Right. So I've done I kind of over the years, I've kind of gone through my own personal journey, what my own path with, with all of this, but as well as doing training. So I've had teachers and guides and then I've had my own kind of journey with it, and then it's just combining it all together.
KellyThen I have another beautiful story, but maybe it's a bit long for today about this connection with this sacred spring in Somerset. So that's where I hold the two day immersions, right at this sacred.
GregReflect time. Time is an illusion. Filthy. If it feels in flow. Let's not interrupt with slender spring.
KellyDoting,
GregDelighting, oh.
KellyDoting spring. And so this is when. And so when I. When I started to go into the darkness as well. What the what the what it was combined with was my connection with God and goddess or spirit the divine. And then I had my marriage fell apart and I went into this massive trauma, where my sense of safety was completely taken away.
KellyAnd then I kind of dropped into this faith in, in spirit and felt completely kind of held. It felt like I was falling, and then I was completely held by spirit. And and then I started to these journeys into the into my inner world, into my inner darkness, releasing things. I started to just build up more trust with spirit and more understanding that everything that I'm doing now is a co-creation.
KellySo actually, it's not just me, Kelly, the ego that's doing this. It's all guided. And I've learned to listen and I've learned to to take the steps one step at a time and to trust, you know, not focus too much on the goal over there, but actually take each step onto trust. And I so yeah, each step of the way, it just took me to doting spring and the two day immersion that I've created.
KellyIt was the these massive beech trees that are there. And when you sit in the middle, it is honestly, it's like being charged up. And I sat with those trees one day and I said, how do I show people that they are divine? Because one of the kind of, one of the griefs that I carry is that lots of people are walking around and not realizing how sacred they are and how beautiful they are and how they, you know, this, this, you know, innocent, pure being inside of them that's full of joy and awe and wonder and actually the burdens of life and the traumas of life, of kind of way of weighing on them
Kellyand holding them down. And because I've been through this process of unburdening myself, and I know what that feels like, and I want to share this with the world. And and I asked the trees, how do I show them that they're divine? And I went back and visited. I go and visit and collect water there. And I just kept seeing these visuals and these visualizations of how it was going to be.
KellyAnd then I and then I met a man and had a, had a little, romance. But with him that what it led to was that he was good friends with the people that live up the road from Doting spring. And so I basically I found myself a venue which is just up the road, and it's not a venue that's advertised.
KellyIt's I don't know, maybe we can can't fit this be. But it's, Yeah, I found myself a nice little space right where I can hold a small.
GregGroup of friends. And, you.
KellyKnow, it's not. No. Gosh, no it's not. I wish underground. Underground, I was sorry. Yeah. Underground like that. Yeah. And so. So we do our practices up at the venue, and then we walk down to the spring, and we do ceremony, and then we walk back up and we do more practice. And it's just it's a really beautiful journey.
KellyAnd I have lots of good feedback about it. And, and that's all come about because of me listening to my intuition or the guidance from.
GregGod finally inspired.
KellyTo finally inspired and guided. And I do think that our connection with the divine does come from a level of surrendering and letting go of control. So when we do step out of the light and this need to know everything, and this need for it to be a certain way and understand everything, when we can surrender and soften.
KellyActually, I think I found God in those spaces more than does that make sense?
GregTotally makes sense. I was in the by in these archetypal two pole system the feminine, the body and the spirit, the masculine. It's like and actually some extent the ego is an expression of the body wanting to survive and procreate. It's this birthing and without wanting to say that females that egotistical or something like this. But there's something in that.
GregIt blinds us until we sink into it. And there's we. We can't hear the divine voice whilst the ego voice is so loud. And when finally we get to this place where there's more balance between it, then the inspiration comes up and I cup overflows, you know, because we're, we've got this energy coming in and suddenly it becomes service without even realizing.
GregIt's not like you have to learn how to be in service services, a symptom of healing. Actually, I think internal. And just by going and choosing to honor and listen, I think there's a certain amount of we talk about people talk about spiritual bypassing, but actually most people are mentally bypassing their bodies. And there is this bypassing. So we we listen and this this fears, it's almost always fears the mind because we're surviving.
GregAnd then without surviving, our parents and our family unit and then society and the pressures and we just have to, you know, work hard, look good socially, stay safe so we don't get rejected. And and then we get to a point where it's like, I've created this set of rules, this algorithm, and it's just stopping me from being connected to, you know, so many people are just in, in such a bubble as they walk around in the world.
GregAnd there's something for me as well in there. You know, this coming into this consciousness that's everywhere and this relationship to the universe where, you know, to let go of all of the craving, the Buddhist way of saying, let go of this needing, wanting, striving. Because I have way, way, way more than I need and what a bounty.
GregAnd just to settle into that and in that moment, not closing to the magic, but even using that, how can I use all the bounty that I've got in this moment to dedicate to listening to the universe? And, well, it's offering me in each and every moment. And, you know, like you say, the goal is the next step, and the next step is being shown in each and every moment by everybody and everything and every bird song around you.
GregYeah. And there's something in its opening and it's kind of for many people, it's like they don't understand this word spirituality, but it's just quite simple. It doesn't need to be religious or talking to the unicorns. It's just this relationship to to the world around you and seeing everything as a potential gold and as a gift to be to be processed so that we can come into a deeper connection with how we can weave, how a single thread in the tapestry of life and contribute in this way.
GregAnd it's like a so life becomes full when we open our eyes to the world around us. And yeah. So yeah. Really and and great. What? Because then we just become servants of the divine. It's like we don't have to think about it. It's just come and it can feel like inspiration. It can feel like, Idea or.
GregBut who knows where it's coming from? It's maybe finally we can hear the. Yeah. The ones that care most, the invisible ones just kind of nudging us in the right way so we can so we can, co-create this future that our children will grow up and to do our little bit in our little corner. Yes and.
KellyYes, live, live as these divinely embodied beings that I just see as having such great potential. And I think that, I see people underestimating the potential of, of humans and understandably, because when we look around or where we're trying to survive in this system, it can feel so heavy and such a burden and the idea of it being something else seems out of their reach.
KellyAnd and that saddens me because, like you say, it's when we can. When we can, flip this way of being. Because what I heard you saying then was about the craving. And I see that as the, the, you know, these kind of nervous systems that are so kind of stuck and hypervigilant that they're just trying to grab and take what they can from life in order to survive.
KellySo there's no judgment on that because it's all come from trauma. It's all come from ruptures in our childhood where we weren't taught that we could be held and that we were going to be loved and nourished and, and looked after, whatever kind of happened in our life when we, when we don't have that those parents or that family or community or the tribe around us, we have these traumas and we have these ruptures and we go into this.
KellyRight. I've got to go out and grab and take what I can from life. And when you're saying about when you when you can flip that and you become more fulfilled. And I close my eyes and I just saw the vessel. I saw the vessel of, of us as having. So part of what I'd like to do, as well as to kind of accumulate, especially with women, this, this sense of our wombs being this vessel, this cup, you know, this chalice, the chalice.
KellyAnd once that cup is, is flowing, it's just outpouring. So this service to the divine, it isn't like sacrifice. It isn't like something's being taken away from us. It isn't like we're submissive. It's actually that our cup is so filled, it's overflowing. And it's it. From taking and grabbing to settling back and receiving. But that takes a level of trust.
KellyThat takes a level of letting go of control and trusting that the divine is going to give to you and you are going to be nourished. And it's really hard sometimes when we live in this system where I just had a massive car bill from my from the mechanic, and I was just like, how am I going to make that work financially?
KellyBut it's it's that and it's, you know, but the more the more that we can go into the darkness, the more that we can work through our traumas and really let go and release them. The more we can let in our soul, the more we can connect with the divine. We split the, we flip the dynamic, and we become receivers of this overflowing love.
KellyAnd the life force from the earth is overflowing. The love of of the divine is overflowing. So it's just about becoming these vessels to to really allow ourselves to receive that, to feel like we're worthy of receiving that, that we can. Yeah.
GregI really actually that's the place I find myself as well, overflowing with love. And I think that, the ones I find it most difficult to love, you know, generally the ones I don't understand and I don't know the ones on the screens or the, you know, the people, you know, maybe psychopaths or something like this. Who are the ones who are the most wounded, the least attached, the they can't even feel human, let alone the world around them.
GregAnd, and and what a what a hell to be in. And and I think that that's another part of going into the shadows and into the darkness is when we actually truly allow ourselves this to, to meet ourselves. Then the only thing left is love and compassion. And, and I take a lot of, inspiration from the feminine.
GregThere seems to be more connection with themselves and their body, and there's an authenticity that comes out and an honesty about the darkness and, and this ability to connect to it. And, and I've learned a lot in that way. And to be able to actually not be afraid to hear my own truth and, and in, in time and, and as soon as I can allow myself that darkness in, in that, you know, the, in the maybe the traditional meaning of darkness out there, which is something that is maybe, has selfish intent, you know, somehow in that way, the more I can allow myself to witness it myself, the more I can see and overflow
Gregwith love. Even the people who I find it most difficult underneath it. It doesn't mean we don't say no.
KellyNo.
GregNo.
KellyWe definitely need to have the batteries. Yeah, definitely needs to be.
GregLoving boundaries.
KellyLoving boundaries.
GregCome from fear. Fear?
KellyYes, exactly. Yeah, yeah. And I think, if I've heard correctly, what you've touched on there is this, a little bit of a the darkness that we're talking about is different to what most people understand darkness to be or what they associate darkness to be. And that's something else that would be great to talk about is, because it's how are we doing?
GregWe're almost at an hour, about five minutes away, but we can flow. It's just.
KellyLike, I'm just thinking, okay.
GregPerfect water for flowing.
KellyExactly.
KellyAnd yeah. So when I've when I've gone into this journey and within myself about the reclaiming the darkness and how important that I, that I feel that is for us as, as humans. And it's this connecting in again with the mother and reclaiming the role of yin, of mother, of feminine and all of that. And how a central that is for us.
KellyI have experienced a lot of, kind of disbelief. So the more that I've understood darkness, the more that I've the more that I've experienced this kind of disbelief and also raged, be quite honest about how severed we have become from it and how, I don't want to kind of go into it too much because I don't want to go into blaming, but how it feels like there was this intentional severance with the mother in our history and with the earth and demonizing the earth and demonizing the feminine because it holds such great power, but not power as in overpowering people or trying to control people, but power, as in,
KellyUs all having our own sense of selves and our own sense of purpose and place in this world that makes us harder to control. So, so this severance of our relationship with the mother, it feels like that was intentional in order to put in programs, and conditioning in order to make us easier to control. So.
KellyI think this association between darkness and evil, eye darkness and bad things, I really would love for that to be separated out. So when we talk about, you know, we're talking about someone and they've done something that's hurtful, they've done something that's that's bad. And then they say, oh, that was a really dark thing to do. And I would love for there to be a different wording around that, because to me, that's not a dark thing.
KellyThat's a shady thing, and it's a thing that has been done out of our on managed pain and out of our defense mechanisms and out of our programs. But to me, that's not darkness, but it is linked in a way, because parts of ourselves are pushed into the darkness. But it's when they are kept there that they become distorted.
KellySo it's more that we are. We are hurting each other, we're being violent, or we're going into addictions because of our pain and because of our distortions, because of our wounding. It's not because of our darkness. So I don't know if you can speak into that a little bit more about how actually darkness isn't evil, that those separate things or darkness isn't, you know, violence and bad things.
KellyIt's a separate thing. I don't know if that resonates.
GregYeah, well, I go all the way in on this one. And, you know, the demon comes from demon, which is the familiar, which is actually it's like the power animal. It's like the thing we're inseparable from that continues to is willing to hurt in order to heal. It's like, this is like this counterpart that will continue to remind you, you know, the demons are all angels in disguise.
GregWhen we fear the demons, like Satan is the adversary and we need the adversaries. And like there are all of these archetypal things all the way littered through it life. And we need this dance and yes, pain I love, in the words of Carlyle Gibran, when we when we really understand the, all of the gifts and magic of a life, the pain seems no less wondrous than the joy when it all comes to us, that everything becomes a gift and everything arrives to us.
GregAnd. And I think we choose our pain as well. People think they're bad at manifesting, but they they actually really good at manifesting. They're just not willing to admit that they're manifesting. Yeah. Like in this kinky way, the the crap. And I know from my rejection wound from when I was three months old, I was I recreate rejection in my life and it's like, what's going wrong?
GregAnd sadly, exactly what I need to be able to go and heal. That and all of everything that comes to me now is golden. You know, that's the alchemist hat. The lead is gold.
KellyExactly.
GregAnd the same thing with the even the devil with the horns. And that that's Pan. Yeah. That's like come from Pan, who's the nature spirit and he's mischievous and he will, you know, if it, you know, like we got.
KellyPlay around and trick you if he can.
GregExactly who's going to win the battle. Ultimately Mother Earth is just she just goes, yeah, and we're all gone. It's like, you know, that's the thing, you know, like we're I think for sure. I think I love this Buddhist reframing of good, bad or evil. And there's something about helpful or harmful and, you know, which is more helpful to me, less harmful.
GregAnd because I'm not in this fear state and just really connecting to all of it and seeing seeing the wonder in, you know, even, you know, the the test is like, can I see the wonder in the carnage of war or the, you know, one of the things in this, the telepathy text, you know, this, this series.
KellySpoke about that is that with the autistic children.
GregThe non non.
KellyNonverbal.
GregExcept they've reframed it now in non-speaking because they've you use spellers so non-speaking. Yeah. Autistic children who, who spend their time like in, in a telepathic land and they meet on the hill and you know this thing and we're like oh this there is such a, such a sad thing, you know, that's happened with these children and where and yet maybe these are the people who are going to be the translators from the spirit realm through to us because they seem to be talking about God and other different things.
GregAnd, and it's like mind blowing. And, you know, I see, for instance, say, I see a lot of dyslexics having this incredible ability to think outside the box and, you know, all of these things that we consider to be problems. You know, the problem is the solution. The solution is the problem at the same with the anger. The anger comes up because it's the solution to the problem that we're facing.
GregIt's like, oh, we need some energy to say no and create all the changes around me in order to be able to change the world around me and the sadness and all of these, all of these things labeled as, you know, negative or it's all just for the mill. And really when when you see the whole of creation, the dark and the light all as one, as part of God, you know that, you know, Satan and Lucifer, just to use this archetypal system taken through a religion, because in our country we can associate it.
GregThey're serving God. They're still the creation of God. They're still serving. And and people don't want to get that and don't want to understand that we need the death. You know, it feels like my life was given to me, and I'm so grateful for it. But there wouldn't have been space if everything before me has continued to live.
KellyYes, exactly.
GregAnd so in dying, I create space for the next generation. And because I'm grateful for my life, I happily make space for other people to experience it. Yeah, that whole thing. So I'm, as I say, I'm quite an extremist on this dark and light front like me. And I mean, I can talk about it, but there are still things that really, yeah, you know, that I find difficult.
GregI find it difficult to witness.
KellyYeah.
GregSaying these things are happening and to make sense of them. And that's my brain fearing it, trying to make sense of it. But my faith is it's all part of something. Yeah. Way more profound that I can even ever pretend to start to understand. So why.
KellyIsn't it really so?
GregThe goal is the next step. What's here for me? Where you know what's happening for me, around me? And where's the next step? Yeah, that's the goal. And that. What's next?
KellyYeah. Yeah. And when you said then about the death and letting go and making space, that's what, that's what I've learned from the tree. So when I've done my shamanic journey and with the trees and my drum, meditating with them and going deep into the roots and really connecting with nature, it's given me a sense of safety within that cycle of life, death and rebirth.
KellySo not only the wisdom of that and the alchemy, you know, when we become these alchemists, but also the wisdom of it, because, and going back to a scientist, Einstein said, when you look deeper into nature, you understand everything better. And so when I really connect in with nature and I see how cycles and I see the cycle of the trees, and I see that we get to autumn and the leaves start to die, and they start to fall down and they go into the ground, they start to decompose and turn into compost, which becomes nourishment for the roots, which goes back into the next cycle for the year after that, nourishment goes into
Kellythe roots and then comes up into the tree. And then spring comes and the buds come the summer, the leaves are out. And so I see this cycle as being, a way of connecting with the eternal flow of life or some the eternal flow of the divine. So if we were at this stage of the summer and we were holding on to that, and then talking about that in ourselves, when we make a mirror ourselves with nature and we're in this glory and we're really holding on to that and we don't want it, let it go.
KellyAnd then we start to become really controlling and really rigid and really stuck like this. The flow of life can't move through and the divine can't move through. And we can't hear the divine anymore because our minds have become so stuck in a particular stage of our life. And so. And then the tension in ourselves start to build up.
KellyWe start to feel this tension and this feeling of being trapped and stuck. And it's because we need to allow the autumn, we need to allow the leaves to turn brown and to slowly die into slowly fall down. Because there's a we go through life in these cycles, and we go through these phases, in these stages. And the more that we cling on to something, a stage of our lives, the more suffering we cause ourselves.
KellyActually. And I see this combination of like pleasure and pain. And if we can allow this flow of pleasure and pain without trying to control it, we actually reduce our suffering. Our suffering comes when we try to avoid the plate, the. Pay and the pleasure, and we become really rigid. And if we allow ourselves to be like trees, to go through our seasons, to go through our the death of the leaves and then the falling down and the stillness and the kind of really deep winter, death process, the more that we kind of can really go with that flow, the more that when the spring comes, we are rebirthing and rebuilding something new of
Kellyourselves, and we go into another phase of our life. And, and I think that, because you mentioned earlier that all women seem to be able to connect more into that, and I think that is related to our cycles because we, you know, you can see the, the, the menstrual cycle as a mirror of this. Yeah, exactly the same thing that ovulation being the leaves being really full and and and vibrant.
KellyAnd then you get the, the autumn stage where the blood starts to kind of fall away, it starts to come down. And then the winter is the actual bleed. And it's like you feel so heavy and so deep and you just need to rest and then come. You come back to the preoccupation there, the bud. And I think because we have that as a monthly cycle, when a woman can really connect in with her monthly cycle and welcome each phase, it becomes easier to welcome this process of death and rebirth and life.
KellySo perhaps that's harder for men to understand. I don't.
GregKnow for sure.
KellyI can't speak for me.
GregSo standing is not experiencing it. Exactly. So we can you can tell me, but I don't know exactly. You know, how can I know exactly how I really experience that? I mean, I experience it in the seasons of the, the, the year, the annual cycle in a different way. And. Yeah, but not in that way. And that's very, very tangible.
KellyAnd I feel like just going back to the mostly male led programing over the last few thousand years, which has been, to disconnect us from the mother and disconnect.
GregOver.
KellyThem.
GregYou have to override your cycles, right?
KellyYes, exactly.
GregBecause I don't remember. Yeah. 9 to 5 and, you know, all just keeps going and.
KellyLinear way.
GregAnd so it, it bulldoze is over. Its them and I don't want to make bad you know, I can see that maybe in this swing there was a need to go into the masculine and all the things and, and this you know and that is swinging back the other way. And it's exactly what's needed. We're coming back because now we, you know, maybe we were too deep in the earth and actually it needed the light.
GregAnd then we're going into the darkness. And it's just there was greater seasons, including the patriarchy and this like, this patriarchal religions and this, which actually in some of the studies allowed us to grow as communities, this, kind of that, that it was seen as the factor that allowed us to get beyond a certain amount of people, because it was this belief that was held that allowed people who didn't know each other to interact and have a have an understanding of each other when they came.
GregSo all of these things played a role.
KellyA common thread to have that religion. It was like a common thread between values, shared.
GregValues and.
KellyExactly. Yeah, yeah. It's not about wronging.
GregNo.
KellyNo, it's about observing and seeing the impact. And the result of some of that severance is taking us, like you say, it's a pendulum swing that's taken us a bit too far away.
GregBut we can choose our pendulum swing that bring back the darkness. This is the balance that we can do.
KellyThis is what we're doing.
GregToo much light. Yeah. And if you've got that, the people who are really cool to darkness quite often are just like, it's just, just want this to all quieten down and just this is darkness deficiency, this kind of craving, this like, like a vitamin or something. It's like, you know, you you crave certain foods when you're deficient in a nutrient, but some part of us craves to just go and properly get winter or get the get the rest period and the moon cycle, or it's like, I've got catch up, I've got like, yes, ten years moon cyclist that I've not been able to rest on, and.
KellyI've done a lot of.
GregThat moon cave to go into, just like, yeah, oh.
KellyYeah.
GregThank God. It's all just shut up. Yeah. Shut up.
KellyYes. Right down. And it's like I see it as, like the day as well between day and night. So we we go out in the morning and we go to work and we do our, we produce and we do our actions and we do our things. And then we come back home and we rest. And it feels like the last 2000 years, it's like we've all been working.
GregYes.
KellyYou know, and it's like, and it's great because look at what we have. We do have so many incredible things that that, you know, I don't don't want to take that for granted, but it feels like, yeah, we've done all this work. And now actually, maybe it's time to balance it with the coming home and resting and going into the darkness and allowing ourselves to be rejuvenated and then starting that cycle again.
KellyBecause how much could how much more could we create as humans if we allowed ourselves to come in and to release what isn't serving us, and then to reclaim something that is there, and this piece of gold that's just waiting to be discovered and to be brought back out. So, yeah, I do think that there's this swing back to nature now, and I feel like there could be this beautiful way of living that combines technology and nature and, you know, embracing both and embracing the individual with the community.
KellyAnd this yin yang, I feel like actually, maybe we're coming to this sort of place where we can be in balance and be complementing each other. The yin and yang can be merging and complementing rather than competing and contradicting, because I see a bit of that that has gone on as well. Like this. What's better? Logical intuition. You know what's above and what's below.
KellyAnd it's like, actually, it's it's not about that. It's about this beautiful dance and.
GregInterface balance, the divine union in this way.
KellyExactly.
GregYeah.
KellyYeah, yeah.
GregI see something else as well. I see like you're talking about working for 2000 years, but I think the common dream of the ancestors is because we're in survival mode is like the dream is you have children, and it's just like, I want you to have a safe space so you can heal. Yeah. And it's like, finally, we're in a state of humanity now where we're getting an opportunity to stop and go in where there's the abundance, there's the safety, and we've created this space.
GregAnd this is I remember one comic, I think it was Doug Stanhope saying, you know, surely the end aim of each society shouldn't be 100% in employment. It should be 0%. You know, this idea that we can just go into our creativity, but within that safety that finally we are the generations that built upon the dreams and the hard work of all of the ancestors, so that we can go inside and do all of the healing for all of the generations coming.
KellyIn, what they couldn't do.
GregAll we carry from all of the beliefs and all of the things that are lodged inside our DNA and in our family structures, and in the things we were told when we were young and we passed on and finally were at the stage where we can go, not just in our lives, all of the all of the trauma from our lives, but back through the generations.
GregAnd there's something now is the time for the darkness to stop and just to let our bodies just shake and breathe it all out. And we connect and go, oh, wow.
KellyYeah.
GregWhy am I not noticed this amazing world before? What a creation. Well done mama, well done. Exactly what incredible beauty. Yeah, that's here in the hearts and souls of each and every, every human being. And all of all of it just mind blowing. Like.
KellyYeah, yeah. Yes it is. Yes.
GregMaybe that's good to end on. I don't know if you want to say anything else you want to say.
KellyWell, I was just thinking about asking you about the because we've talked about the kind of inner darkness, but the I'd love to hear about some of the experiences that the people that come to your retreats, that have that, that, that actually have this outer darkness and this ability to be able to actually open your eyes in the darkness.
KellyBecause there's one thing about being able to close our eyes and being able to go inside, but actually to be able to open your eyes and be surrounded by darkness. And what impact that has on people.
GregYes. Well, people in the darkness, they say they see the same things when the eyes are open and their eyes are closed. But when the eyes are closed, your attention comes in. When your eyes are open, the your attention comes out. And actually, it's a really good analogy for the fact that we think that we can see something other than ourselves outside of us.
GregWe can't in other people. If you spot it, you've got it. Even if it's a seed of it. The fact that we can recognize the good or the bad in anybody or anything else means that the only way we can relate to it is inside of us. So there's something in the mirror that happens in this way that people are much more connected.
GregOr we hope, because it says, space for self-healing. Some people at different stages of this shadow, understanding and realization of their relationship to the world around them. People come at different stages, but something else happens in the in the physicality of it. Something happens when your light isn't, your skin isn't getting light as well, right?
KellyOkay.
GregAnd it changes the way the darkness really envelops you, and it changes the way the depth you go to and the speed in which you go into that, and the womb space and how quickly what is revealed is revealed. Because when we look outside, when you have your eyes open in this way and looking outside of yourself, you're much more likely to pick up on things that you've never seen or understood, seen or perceived before.
GregThen, the plethora of Hisense perceptions, from the telepathic skills to being able to with the remote viewers going into maybe the Akashic Records or the astral projectors, being able to travel with their light body, other places, or to be able to feel inside myself what you're feeling in you, this kind of sympathetic resonance, or to be able to see energy or feel or all of these.
GregThere are a plethora of things that are blocked out by the light.
KellyYes.
GregAnd when we open our eyes, then we start to open our eyes to what could be coming in because we paying attention to the outside world. Yes. So different information is coming in. And I think that's really valuable. Yeah. Actually.
KellyYeah.
GregBecause it's not necessarily I don't think darkness is just the absence of light. I think the absence of a light allows everything that is emitted or obscured by the light to come in. And so there's something very different about doing it without a mask. And, you know, there's always that leaks. And we used to get like HCI.
KellyThat there's always that possibility of the light coming in. But when you know that it's completely like inflicting.
GregLight. Into that, I mean, it's definitely better than nothing for sure. It's like, it's great. But if you can spend days and days like people who come here are and doing when they come to the hotel. Yeah, actually the total absence of light really is the only way to do it. And. Yeah. And.
KellyYeah, it brings me on to something else that I wanted to say. And that was about the wandering that I have, which is perhaps in the past, before we had electricity and before we could just turn on the light in the evenings, that and we would kind of gather around the fire more and we'd be more connected with the light the day and the night.
KellyWhether we did have less fear of the night because we had more of those sensory abilities. And so perhaps part of our fear of the darkness, as in like the nighttime, I mean, obviously there's that primal fear of, like, I can't see if there's an enemy, I can't see if there's a threat, which is completely valid. But at the same time, I wonder if in the past, because we were connected, because possibly we were connecting so much more with our sensations and possibly, don't know about psychic abilities, but just this extra sensory perception that we couldn't have seen a threat, but we could feel that threat, so we could feel if there was
Kellysome danger coming towards us. Whereas whereas now in our modern society, we're so focused on the light and electricity we've lost, those senses have been dulled down. And so we have more of a fear of the darkness because we can't trust our we don't have that connection or that remembrance of our extrasensory perception and our senses being able to go out further to in order to detect.
KellySo we don't trust ourselves.
GregAnd trust ourselves because it's all still coming in. All of that information is available to us. Yeah, and sometimes it does get through. Like we think of someone and then we, they phone or, you know, or, you know, someone's looking at you or all of these other different things. Or also when you walk into a space and you know, whether you can feel the energy of a space.
KellyYes, exactly. And you can feel where objects are. So earlier on, I was asking you to people bump into the furniture, but I imagine that once they've been in that space for a little while, they get a sense of how that what that table feels like in their energy field. So then they move around it. And I love dancing acts that it dances with my eyes closed.
KellyAnd I really love being able to just sense other people's energies. And I'll be moving around the space like this. Maybe everybody else has got their eyes open and they're like, wait, we better give her a space. I don't know, but I think I love being able to close my eyes and feeling to my body and my senses and other people's.
KellyAnd I kind of move around and we we've into each other. Round each other. And it's kind of retraining myself to trust those senses, those.
GregAnd smiling because there's somebody who is in the darkness here, and we've got these big lampshades. And I always say to people when they go in, that's, that's your little nemesis for the time you're in here. It's just like, we like to keep you a little bit on your toes, and it doesn't hurt the head space. But he did his whole seven days without bumping into it.
GregAnd then when we got the light on, he he bashed his head on it three times. Which goes to show there's a really another really interesting form that I which I'm really interested in, I've not had time to go into. I have tried actually to reach out. There's a woman called Nicola Farmer in this country whose training children, but they have the mindful of and they can see and they can color and they can play ball and catch.
KellyAnd yes.
GregI think all of these things were a significant part, you know, all of the other cues that the birds have stopped singing. Yeah. Therefore there's something coming, you know, all of these other ways which we feel and sense and, and we're, we're yeah, we are. We've suddenly put ourselves in the cage of, of these five senses. Yes.
KellyAnd there's so much more. It makes me think of the in the Jedi part of the Jedi training in Star Wars is having the having the, the blindfold on, and then they're firing at her. She's like, and it's that. It's like. Yeah. And the children who have these, I've seen that as well. The children that have the blindfolds on and they learn to trust their other senses.
KellyAnd I think that's another gift of reclaiming the darkness. So I guess I just wanted to kind of have that in as well.
GregWe do in that because we do The Darkness Hotel. But we do these retreats which are communal. The whole house is is blacked out as opposed to you, just a cell in a room where you're fed through the door. And in this room, actually. And every morning we do Sheung, which is the Daoist sir, major users of the darkness in this way.
GregSo we do going there's some balancing exercises, but we use our eyes for balance. And because we're used to using our eyes for balance, we've forgotten how to use our internal senses. Actually. Yeah. And so to begin with, people can't because they're trying to they've got their using this as a crutch, the eyes. But there's another sense that you can tune into.
GregAnd I find people when they really tune into their body, they can find their own sense of balance. And it's a really tangible example of when people can, when restricted from their sight, can quite easily and in a short amount of time begin to tune into another sense that's available to them that they're they've been divorced from somehow.
KellyYeah, absolutely. So, so many gifts in the darkness.
GregSo many.
KellyRivers covered quite a lot.
GregQuite a lot. We've done really well. It's been a lot of fun as well. And yeah, it's really beautiful to meet a fellow. Darkness and yes, yes, we could go on for hours. Sure. That was honored.
KellyYeah. Thank you so much.
